Title: Social Worker - Licensed Independent (LISW) - Substitute

 

Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor

 

Job Objective: Provides counseling and psychosocial intervention services.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Holds/maintains valid Ohio licensure/certification for social work:  Level 2 (Licensed Independent Social Worker). Must obtain a Pupil Services Registration or Licensure issued by the Ohio State Board of Education.  Meets all qualifications and training requirements described in the Ohio Administrative Code scope of practice for social work.
  • Acts in accordance with the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.

  • Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.

  • Documents/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.

  • Effectively manages multiple responsibilities in a demanding work environment.

  • Embodies high ethical standards.  Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.

  • General familiarity of community resources (e.g., EMS, family services, fire, medical, police, etc.).

  • Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., confidence, empathy, etiquette, self control, verbal clarity, etc.).

Note: Additional specific training may be required (e.g., blood borne pathogen, child abuse/neglect, communicable disease, CPR, first aid/injury prevention, nonviolent crisis intervention, etc.).

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assesses the social/emotional needs of student related to learning. Enhances the lines of communication between home, school, and the community.  Helps develop intervention plans to prevent or remediate identified concerns.
  • Monitors students struggling with academic and/or social-emotional problems (e.g., abuse, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional/behavioral issues, neglect, poverty, pregnancy, self-esteem, substance abuse, etc.).  Collaborates with community resources, district staff and family members to identify effective interventions.
  • Serves as a case manager.  Identifies student problems that impede student learning.  Develops treatment plans that support student self-determination.  Provides one-on-one therapeutic services.
  • Initiates contact with parents and community resources to deal with student issues.
  • Collaborates with school administrators and staff to deal with student behavior problems.
  • Serves as an Evaluation Team Report (ETR) resource.  Recommends services relevant to needs.
  • Facilitates meetings with student groups (e.g., grief/loss, stress/anger management, etc.).
  • Serves as a member of the district crisis management team.  Helps develop crisis response plans.
  • Helps students make appropriate choices and improve personal skills (e.g., accountability, interpersonal communication, responsible behavior, self-confidence, etc.).  Encourages creativity, critical-thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct and self-reliance.
  • Advocates for students.  Promotes inclusive educational opportunities for all students.

2. Exemplifies professionalism to enhance NwOESC and member district public images. 

  • Diligently attends to job details. Pursues quality work results.  Performs all aspects of the job.
  • Encourages community involvement in school-sponsored activities.
  • Develops mutually respectful relationships with co-workers.  Functions as part of a cohesive team.
  • Maintains an acceptable attendance record.  Provides prompt notice of delays or absences.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.  Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
  • Participates in the development of best practices and advancement of academic standards.
  • Respects privacy.  Resolutely maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.

3. Maintains open/effective communications. Serves as a reliable information resource.

  • Prepares and maintains accurate records. Submits required paperwork on time.
  • Refers administrative procedure and policy questions to an appropriate administrator.
  • Resolves issues tactfully.  Uses active listening/problem-solving techniques.  Respects diversity.

4. Pursues opportunities to enhance personal performance.

  • Keeps current with professional standards associated with work duties.
  • Updates personal skills as needed to effectively utilize task-appropriate technology.

5. Keeps current with emergency management plan procedures.

  • Protects program property.  Takes precautions to prevent the loss of equipment and supplies.
  • Takes action to address harassment and/or aggressive behavior.  Complies with all legal statutes when dealing with discrimination, inappropriate behavior or suspected child abuse/neglect.
  • Upholds high standards for proper conduct.  Implements effective pupil management procedures.  Uses positive behavioral support techniques to address disruptive student behavior.

6. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

  • Helps implement workplace initiatives to advance organizational goals.

SALARY: Daily substitute rate based on the adopted salary schedule and the candidate’s experience.

 

BENEFITS: Substitute position; Membership in the State Teachers’ Retirement System is included.
